Job description

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The role sits within the team which has primarily invested in the renewable energy sector to date, with a current geographic focus on the UK. The teams remit includes infrastructure, energy efficient technologies, waste and biomass.

The team develops, invests in and operates a range of Green Energy Technology projects and manages investment funds, maximising risk-adjusted returns to shareholders through a combination of:

  • Financially sound valuation of infrastructure and green technology projects
  • Sourcing suitable investments
  • Agreeing commercially competitive investment terms
  • Undertaking rigorous technical, commercial and legal due diligence on potential investments
  • Maintaining industry knowledge and relationships
  • Active management of operational portfolio

The role sits as a central component of the team with active involvement in the collective goal to effectively build track record in investment returns and building assets under management.

KEY RESPONSILITIES

  • Supporting the Investment Director and the Sales Team in fund-raising for future Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) funds, including liaison with Tax Team
  • Supporting the Investment Director in development of project pipeline, including initial due diligence, preparation of summary financial models, assessment of risks/mitigating factors
  • Supporting the Investment Director on M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions) type transactions – the role will generally be to acquire new projects under Share Purchase or Asset Purchase Agreements
  • Critically assessing risks for new project transactions (commercial, financial and technical with the support of external advisors), including assistance with negotiation of commercial contracts and development of detailed discounted cash flow (DCF) models
  • Managing external advisors (legal and technical) for the timely delivery of key documentation during the acquisition process (contracts and reports)
  • Supporting the Investment Director in the preparation Investment Committee reports to approve new transactions
  • Supporting and lead the Investment Associate in and eventually leading the management of the asset portfolio including contracts management – managing our obligations under a variety of construction and operational contracts and being the first point of contact.
  • Supporting and lead the Investment Associate with the ongoing asset management including analysis of asset output (actual vs expected), investigation of any fall in performance with Operations & Maintenance contractor, acting as first point of contact with external technical asset manager, preparation of monthly asset performance reports
  • Development of Key Performance Indicators for the existing asset base and conveying this to the O&M team for benchmarking and reporting purposes
  • Working with Finance, Marketing and Client Services Teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting of fund and asset performance based on updated financial models
  • Ability to draft company presentation and Information Memorandum for sale and financing purposes, including running due diligence purposes
  • Developing relationships with developers and other personnel in the industry

  • Energy Efficient Technologies Team
  • Developers, asset intermediaries, asset managers and third party service providers.
  • Internal departments such as Finance, Legal, Tax, Marketing, Client Services and Sales
  • Strong academics – 2:1 or above
  • Prior transactional experience essential and strong analytical skills
  • Prior fund raising (particular EIS), project management, contract management (both construction and operational) and asset management experience desirable
  • Numerate and highly competent with MS Excel
  • Use of financial models for DCF/NPV valuation and some experience in financial model development
  • Excellent attention to detail with proactive approach to problem solving
  • Highly organised, logical, with good time management skills
  • Personable and professional approach
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and on paper
  • An interest in investment, finance and the infrastructure sector essential
  • Flexibility to meet a range of tasks
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload – able to define priorities and ensure task completion

  • Experience of the infrastructure sector beneficial on either client or funder side beneficial
