Job title: Hydrogen Production Process Engineer

Location: London Area, United Kingdom (Hybrid)

The Hydrogen Production Process Engineer is responsible for the Hydrogen Electrolyser System's high-level design, contract specification and system safety, ensuring projects meet the performance, service and safety requirements defined in the contract, by law, exacting focus on safety.

TGRC are happy to be working with a leading global IPP and asset manager in the renewables space, looking to build a global Green Hydrogen Portfolio. The client is looking for a well-versed Process Engineer with hands-on experience working with Hydrogen production, ideally, either blue or Green.

The role provides process engineering technical advice relating to:

  • Hydrogen electrolysis and ancillary systems water treatment, gas handling and processing

  • High-pressure compression;

  • High-pressure storage;

  • Distribution of hydrogen and delivery interface with customer(s);

  • Process safety, including Asset Management and O&M adoption

Organisational Context

The Group Engineering team provides engineering support to all Regional Businesses across all phases of low-carbon projects. In a changing global market, we need to achieve cost parity with conventional generation, we have a role to ensure effective knowledge sharing across the Group and to reduce cost through innovative engineering solutions that achieve a balance between risk and cost. The department also has a key role in supporting the business to diversify into new markets and technologies.

The role of the Senior Process Engineer focuses on the engineering required for green hydrogen project development and delivery through external EPC. This includes project feasibility, supplier assessment, pre-FEED, technical specification for, and oversight of, FEED and EPC and witnessing of commissioning and testing.

Additionally, the Senior Process Engineer supports project teams across all regions by providing advice, review and design services, and promoting consistent best practices in process engineering, safety and design.

Key Accountabilities

The Senior Process Engineer is responsible during all phases of projects for the following:

  • Own, specify and review requirements for hydrogen production facility projects

  • Developing practices and solutions to improve safety and quality in Hydrogen projects, including controls and optimisation.

  • Define safety-based constraints for site finding including management of consequence modelling

  • Electrolyser, compressor and storage sizing, selection and configuration;

  • Delivery of high-level pre-FEED deliverables

  • Preparation of the technical specifications, and definition of the FAT & SAT, for hydrogen production facilities

  • Management and review of EPC technical deliverables during FEED and EPC delivery.

  • Provision of technical support during the delivery phase regarding end-user requirements and system performance.

  • Process Engineers may also support or manage other technology workstreams and other regions within global markets.

The knowledge you have:

  • Process engineering background.

  • Knowledge of risks, hazards and safety mitigations for gas processing plants and pressure vessels

  • Hazard Identification (HazID), Hazard and operability Study (HazOP) or other risk assessment methodologies

Skills you have:

  • Commercial awareness relating to contract compliance, cost control and relative value of engineering solutions

  • Time management skills to balance priorities

  • Collaboration within and across project functions

  • Presentation skills to technical and non-technical audiences

  • Attention to detail during preparation and review of engineering deliverables

Experience you have:

  • Proven experience working in process engineering, commissioning and/or operational experience is considered a benefit

  • Experience in specifying, implementing, and assessing process systems.

Qualifications you hold:

  • Engineer with a degree in chemical engineering or similar working towards chartership,

  • Or a suitable trades / non-vocational background with considerable equivalent experience
