  • security screening expansion to enhance the traveller experience, improve efficiency, and meet compliance;

  • check-in hall expansion to upgrade technology and accommodate future growth;

  • aircraft parking space growth;

  • terminal pier expansions north and south to create more gates; and

  • kerbside pick-up and drop-off area expansion to improve traffic flows.

The Scope

Develop, implement, and co-ordinate Adelaide Airport Limited’s (AAL’s) energy strategy, aligned with AAL’s development, regulatory requirements and sustainability goals.

Lead

  • Energy Strategy & Energy Business Development:

  • Develop, implement, and co-ordinate AAL’s energy strategy for Adelaide and Parafield Airports.

  • Develop and implement AAL’s energy business plan based on AAL’s energy business development initiatives.

  • Own AAL’s energy reduction and energy sustainability targets and strategies and ensure effective implementation of energy conservation initiatives.

  • Stay updated on market trends, emerging technologies, and legislative changes related to energy management and relevance to AAL’s energy strategy.

  • Utilise experience and market knowledge to remain ahead of expectations in the planning and execution of AAL’s emerging energy business development opportunities – for example: EV charging strategies, electric aircraft charging, demand management.

Network strategy:

  • Key account relationship and commercial point with SAPN. Ensure SAPN and AAL have joint long term visibility of mutual infrastructure requirements.

  • Work with AAL’s Planning & Infrastructure, Facilities Management and Property Teams to ensure AAL plans, maintains and builds energy assets ahead of the curve and ensure AAL energy projects exceeds cost of capital on investment.

  • Establish efficient network demand management systems including relevant system controls, peak demand management and create revenue opportunities.

  • Identify opportunities to further monetise the operation and management of AAL’s embedded network infrastructure.

Energy procurement / on-selling:

  • Work with AAL’s Head of Property Asset Management to optimise renewable energy procurement and ongoing retail contract management including SAPN annual costs and PPA contract condition compliance

  • Lead the embedded network on-selling process to relevant AAL tenants and work with AAL’s Head of Property Asset Management to set tenant pricing, tenant contract management, tariff validation and ensure all regulatory requirements are met.

  • Establish, manage and monitor annual electricity expenditure and revenue budgets

Self-Generation:

  • Management of AAL’s REC account, responsible for creation, management and lodgement of onsite generated LGC’s and LGC’s purchased from AAL’s retailers ensuring all transactions meet compliance regulations.

  • Optimise the use of AAL’s (and AAL’s tenants) available assets to maximise cost effective self-generation – including through rooftop solar and use of batteries.

  • Initiate the management of renewable energy projects, including contributions to AAL’s Planning & Infrastructure team to vendor selection, procurement, and installation.

Energy Risk and Compliance:

  • Ensure AAL has the knowledge, people, processes and technology to be compliant and offer great service to stakeholders.

  • Ensure embedded network compliance and all regulatory requirements are met, including metering, tenant retailer of choice, AAL retailer licencing and embedded network manager requirements.

  • Identify and mitigate energy-related risks, such as supply disruptions, price fluctuations, and regulatory changes. Develop contingency plans to ensure business continuity in the face of energy challenges.

Energy Monitoring:

  • Ownership of energy data collection, monthly reporting and analysis to identify patterns, anomalies, and areas for improvement, making data-driven recommendations.

  • Ensure the capability of AAL’s systems, including metering, monitoring, and ESG reporting, to provide real-time insights into energy consumption.

  • Analyse energy data.

AAL’s cross functional energy collaboration:

  • Establish and chair cross functional AAL Working Group comprising subject matter experts across AAL’s wider business to input into and deliver AAL’s Energy Strategy.

  • Ownership of ensuring AAL has excellent internal co-ordination and communication and seamless timely input and approvals.

Support

  • Property Team: to ensure cost effective, valuable and marketable energy for AAL’s tenants and their ability to administer information provision with tenants.

  • Facilities Team: in the maintenance and replacement of AAL’s embedded network and energy assets

  • Planning & Infrastructure Team: in the planning and development/expansion of AAL’s (& AAL’s tenant’s) energy transmission/network and generation assets.

General

  • Act consistently with being a senior leader with AAL;

Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in energy management principles and energy efficiency strategies.

  • Experience in an Energy Management environment with detailed knowledge of energy contracts with an understanding of the Australian Energy Market.

  • Detailed knowledge of electrical network infrastructure and associated rules.

  • Proven experience in strategic planning, policy and procedures formulation and contract negotiation relevant to effective energy management.

  • Detailed knowledge of the renewable energy and energy supply industries.

  • Tertiary qualifications and extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
