Head of Development
Job description
We are partnering with an international renewable energy IPP to appoint a Head of Project Development for Germany, responsible for leading and strengthening the local development portfolio across utility-scale PV and battery storage.
This role sits at the heart of the German platform and is ideal for an experienced development leader who wants to take broader responsibility, influence country strategy, and progress into a Country Manager role as the business scales.
The Role
The Head of Project Development will play a central role in shaping and delivering the German development pipeline, working closely with senior management while retaining strong involvement in projects and teams.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the German project development portfolio, ensuring projects progress efficiently from early-stage origination through RTB and COD
Contributing to the German growth strategy, translating high-level objectives into actionable development plans
Providing technical and strategic guidance to development teams, drawing on hands-on project experience
Driving and coordinating key decisions related to:
Development pathways and project structuring
Commercial topics and risk management, in alignment with senior management
Go / no-go recommendations at critical project milestones
Managing and developing the local project development team, including setting priorities, supporting performance, and mentoring more junior developers
Coordinating and steering external stakeholders, including:
Legal, technical, and environmental consultants
TSOs, DSOs, and grid connection partners
Municipalities, landowners, and strategic partners
Supporting project financing processes, working alongside investors, lenders, and internal finance teams
Ensuring a structured handover from development into construction, maintaining close collaboration with EPC partners
Monitoring project timelines, budgets, and risk exposure, escalating key issues where required
Representing the company in professional, senior-level discussions and negotiations with external stakeholders
Candidate Profile
6–10 years’ experience in renewable energy, with a strong focus on utility-scale PV project development
Proven experience managing projects across multiple development phases, with direct involvement in permitting, grid, and stakeholder processes
Exposure to BESS projects, ideally from a development or commercial perspective
Solid understanding of German permitting, grid connection, and regulatory frameworks
Initial leadership experience, either through line management or technical/project leadership
Ambition to grow into a broader country-level leadership role over time
Strong analytical, organisational, and stakeholder management skills
Fluency in German and English
Advantageous Background
Experience supporting project financing or investment processes
Exposure to the EPC or construction interface on PV and/or BESS projects
Experience working within an international or fast-growing organisation
