Environmental Health Safety Specialist

Job description

​We are seeking an experienced Occupational Health & Safety Specialist to support large-scale energy and wind development projects. These environments involve complex operations, heavy equipment, elevated work, and potentially hazardous conditions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment through inspections, program development, regulatory compliance, incident investigation, and proactive risk mitigation.

Top Required Skills & Experience

  • HSE certification (required)

  • Experience managing control of work systems and permit referencing

  • Proven incident investigation experience

  • Experience working at heights

  • Safety auditing experience

Preferred/Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • ASP or CSP certification strongly preferred

  • Construction Safety Certification is a plus

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations

  • Develop, implement, and improve safety programs and procedures

  • Lead and document incident investigations, identifying root causes and corrective actions

  • Enforce adherence to safety standards, including stopping work when conditions pose risk to personnel

  • Evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to reduce hazards

  • Recommend and implement risk mitigation strategies

  • Demonstrate proper use of safety equipment and ensure workforce compliance

Soft Skills & Team Fit
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to lead initiatives and work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams

  • Comfortable engaging with craft labor, supervision, and management levels

  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and confident in high-risk environments

Experience Requirements
  • 5–10 years of direct, hands-on safety experience

  • Experience in heavy lifting, civil construction, or large-scale construction projects strongly preferred

Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (minimum requirement)
