Job description
We are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead and enforce safety programs for high-voltage transmission and distribution (T&D) projects. The Safety Manager will ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, promote a culture of safety, and mitigate risks associated with power line construction, maintenance, and operation. This role requires expertise in electrical safety, OSHA compliance, and high-risk construction environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures tailored to T&D operations.
Conduct job site safety audits, risk assessments, and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA, NESC, NFPA 70E, DOT, and other relevant standards.
Provide training and coaching on electrical safety, fall protection, confined space entry, and other high-risk areas.
Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences.
Ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety gear.
Work closely with project managers, linemen, engineers, and subcontractors to integrate safety measures into daily operations.
Oversee environmental health and hazardous material handling compliance.
Conduct daily and weekly safety meetings, including toolbox talks and emergency response drills.
Stay up to date with industry safety regulations and best practices to continuously improve safety programs.
Prepare and maintain safety records, reports, and documentation for compliance audits.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in safety management for T&D, utility construction, or electrical infrastructure projects.
Certifications preferred: OSHA 30/OSHA 500, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), or equivalent.
Strong knowledge of high-voltage electrical safety procedures, grounding techniques, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols.
Experience with DOT safety requirements for utility fleets.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to travel to job sites and work in various weather conditions.
Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools.
