Job description
We are working with an Australian-leading energy market retailer who are looking for a commercial analyst to join their Merchant Energy team in Sydney. As the Commercial Analyst in the client's merchant energy team, you'll gain firsthand experience in electricity market activities, renewable energy transactions, and support project portfolio development.
This role offers exposure to wholesale energy markets, including the National Electricity Market (NEM). Ideal for individuals passionate about renewable energy and the transition to a low-emission energy sector.
Responsibilities will include, but not be restricted to:
Analyzing the NEM and its pricing dynamics
Forming in-house perspectives on the future value of solar, wind, and batteries in various NEM regions
Valuing power purchase agreement (PPA) opportunities
Assisting in commercial modeling of battery energy storage systems (BESS)
Engaging with external stakeholders, such as potential counterparties, legal partners, and market research providers
Reviewing project development and transaction contracts
Communicating internally about PPA and project opportunities
Assessing markets for environmental certificates, including LGCs, STCs, and others.
Work experience & skills
Ideally, 2-3 years' experience in a related role or within the Australian energy industry.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.
Demonstrated expertise in analytical thinking and proficient in interpreting, querying, modeling, and evaluating datasets.
Previous involvement in database management, analysis, modeling, and reporting.
Capability to establish a broad network of contacts.
Proven strong analytical skills.
Excellent time management and prioritization capabilities.
Familiarity with the NEM is considered advantageous but not mandatory.
A strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development within the company.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree in a financial discipline such as economics, finance/accounting, mathematics, or engineering.
