Job description

The Client:

An innovate energy storage company that has established itself over the last 6 years. A well-funded company with an original take on technology, design and customer interaction. They are set to make significant waves in the energy industry and play a significant role in helping shape a new landscape in the energy industry.  

 

In an industry set to be worth $20 billion by 2020, the company has successfully deployed a large fleet of their batteries and are on the precipice of taking a leading position in the rapidly growing energy storage industry.

 

The Role:

As an Electrical Development Engineer, you will work as part of a multi-disciplined group. Our electrical engineers are involved in projects from the concept and detail of the design, through to development, implementation, testing and handover. You may also be involved in supporting maintenance programmes as well as system commissioning.

 

Responsibilities

While the work will vary according to the project, you'll typically need to:

  • Understand product/project requirements
  • Be familiar with the high-power side of site applications and power distribution on bespoke installations
  • You will be an integral part of developing AC and DC power distribution, switching, protection, monitoring and integration of commercial Energy Storage Devices.
  • Design build and test models and prototypes of new products during and after the R&D process
  • Design of power distribution circuitry medium and low voltage systems, design wiring schematics, switching, and power monitoring systems
  • Produce product documentation for internal and external use as well as technical reports
  • Work to British (BS), European (EN), American (UL) and other standards and ensure its proper implementation
  • Familiar with New Product Development (NPD) and New Product Introduction (NPI) processes and managing the phases of and transition from design and development, test and validation and hand over to contract assembler requirements
  • Manage validation of complete system and compliance with both UK and European standards
  • Integration of battery and power electronics systems
  • Coordinate with other departments involved in the project, specially the technical team
  • Deal with suppliers during design and carry out component selection activities
  • Provide technical expertise and support during site surveys, installation (SAT), maintenance and upgrade of units

 

The Individual:

You'll need to show:

  • You have a working knowledge of LV and HV systems design, ideally with hands on experience during your career
  • Capture and interpret customer requirements in terms of system functionality and associated product architecture requirements
  • Have a firm knowledge of current and ‘State of Art’ commercial electrical components generally used in the integration of industrial drives, i.e. Relays, digital integrated controllers, switchgear and assemblies
  • The ability to interpret a design brief and converse with electrical component suppliers regarding component selection and specification
  • Data driven, self-starter with strong customer and stakeholder communication skills
  • You should demonstrate your skills in relation to Power System Architecture definition and requirement capture
  • Self-motivation and capability of delivering work tasks without a high dependency of additional resource
  • Must have a strong interest in innovation and product development within the fields of low carbon technologies and smart energy networks
  • Manage system and component compliance in line with customer and industry application requirements and expectations in both UK and European territories
  • Demonstrate the ability to have good verbal and written interaction with existing design team members and suppliers
