The Green Recruitment Company is delighted to be retained by a leader in the global renewable energy sector, as they look to grow out their Project Finance team in California.

The company are highly regarded as an integrated solar company who design, develop, finance and operate renewable energy projects worldwide.

We are working with them to find a new Director, Project Finance to support the Residential Solar division and also a Senior Manager, Project Finance who can work on their C&I projects, specialising mainly in tax equity transactions throughout the US.

Both roles require professionals with extensive Project Finance expertise who can lead, negotiate and execute complex transactions. The preference is for these individuals to be based locally, in the Richmond/East Bay Area, but there can be flexibility for the right candidate.

Director, Project Finance (Residential Solar & Storage)

The Director, Project Finance will originate and lead project financings to support the Residential solar and storage business. This will include raising debt, equity, tax equity and loan funding capital to support continued growth of the business. A background in tax equity is preferred but not essential. A candidate who has securitizations expertise would be a great fit for the role, as our client will begin their own securitisations from 2022. A good example of competitors specialising in these projects would be Sunnova, Loanpal or Sunlight Financial, who have all closed large residential solar securitizations.

This professional needs to have a clear track record of leading transactions, in particular Project Finance deals. This will likely be someone with a heavy structured finance experience, potentially from a leading bank or ratings agency. It is essential this hire has a renewable energy, and project/structured finance background. Ideally 10 years+ experience within Project Finance, with a strong deal sheet, and ability to negotiate transactions documents and experienced in managing a team of younger Analysts.

Senior Manager, Project Finance (Commercial & Industrial)

In addition, our client needs Senior Manager to join the C&I transaction team. This team has five people, and is a very similar structure to Residential, with everyone also reporting into the Senior Director for Project Finance. This new hire would take on managerial responsibilities for the Analysts and potentially the Manager.

This professional will be lighter in experience than the Residential PF Director, however they will still need to be able to lead a Project Financing and evidence a relevant deal track record. This will include working closely with the banks and investors, managing the legal resources, and be able to bring a deal from origination through to execution.

The right candidate could come from a similar business or competitor, either specialising in traditional utility scale or have commercial C&I expertise already. Tax equity experience is essential and a prerequisite for this hire. M&A and debt transaction experience is also interesting.
