Country Lead Southwest & Northwest (m/w/d)
Our Client seeks a Country Lead to drive Company's ambitions in developing a portfolio of early-stage solar/BESS and solar co-located projects through the development and permitting phase and into construction-ready status.
Reporting initially to the Chief Development Officer, the Country Lead Southwest/ Northwest will be responsible for comprehensive management of the site development, permitting, and grid process for a portfolio of solar/BESS and solar co-located projects throughout Southwest and Northwest Germany. Responsible for a team of Project Managers and Development team’s origination executives. They will work closely with Company ’s grid team, Pre-Construction, and legal teams, this person will be responsible for drive several projects simultaneously through the environmental and site survey phase and into local permitting. Significant focus and emphasis will be placed on managing not only each project’s process through the development cycle, but also managing the entire regional portfolio relative to the market specific timing, risks, and other factors impacting success.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop market strategy and manage and support team members in negotiations, risk analysis and project development of the pipeline.
Build portfolio by sourcing greenfield projects and managing the due diligence process.
Participate in M&A processes for project exit/acquisitions by supporting project due diligence.
Collaborate with internal and external teams across Land, Interconnection, Engineering, Tax, Origination, PPAs and Structured Finance.
Key Accountabilities:
Comprehensive ownership and management of site analysis, survey and data gathering, and preliminary design and engineering used for project planning and grid.
Intimate understanding of all necessary local, state, and federal permitting requirements for every site in the portfolio.
Management of each unique permitting process, including budget, schedule, and primary risk factors.
Ownership of external consultant relationships, scopes, and value-add to the portfolio.
Company lead for local community/municipality engagement, including hosting educational events and engaging with local officials to establish and promote direct local benefits of each project.
Collaboration with internal origination, grid connection, offtake sales, and finance leads on broader market strategy and ultimate disposal/handover to construction of portfolio.
Coordinate with regional environmental/permitting partners to identify permitting and environmental requirements and fatal flaws analysis, work to establish and deep understanding of the permitting nuances of each municipality in the target region.
Assist in detailed designs, work with design leads on Development Team to vet fatal flaws, permitting requirements, and optimal site use.
Establish project-by-project development plan, schedule, milestones, and budget; tightly manage each projects plan and produce a quarterly summary and presentation to HoD and C-suit management.
Establish rapport with state/Federal level trade/advocacy groups, meet with landowners after signings as needed, work with community/permitting authorities as need to establish positive relationships.
Qualifications
Required Work Experience
At least 5 years experience in infrastructure development in Germany, with preferable at least 3 years experience specifically in solar development.
Strong knowledge of permitting process.
Education
Undergraduate Degree in business, engineering, environmental science or equivalent.
Additional Requirements
Experience managing permitting and environmental consultants, and leading large-scale project permitting with stakeholders, as well as working with local community residences.
Highly entrepreneurial and self-driven, with interest to take full ownership of significant project pipeline.
Demonstrated team player with success collaborating with internal and external teams.
Excellent written and verbal communications, ability to periodically summarize and present macro market plans to management.
Ability to work independently and creatively to identify risks and help colleagues formulate solutions.
