Job description

JOB TITLE: CONTROLLER

Opportunity with a private equity-backed company focused on the acquisition, development, and operations of battery energy storage assets.

The electric grid is transitioning from a centralized system, to one more distributed, renewable and

accessible to power users. Changing regulation, renewable mandates, stricter environmental regulations, evolving system load profile, increased supply intermittency, new customer needs, and technological advancement are the key drivers for changing the 100-year-old paradigm. The company team, having deep expertise in power generation, renewable energy and energy storage, as well as a proven track record of asset development and management, is well poised to capture this opportunity.

The company currently owns and operates a portfolio of grid-scale battery energy storage project in Texas and is in various stages of evaluation and development on a pipeline of energy storage projects totaling over 1 gigawatt.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting

  • Ensure all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems meet GAAP standards.

  • Own and drive all close processes and ensure accurate and efficient financial reporting

  • Ensure adequate internal controls by building, maintaining, and improving systems, processes, and controls

  • Manage the external audit and tax return processes

  • Build cross-functional relationships to resolve month end issues and process efficiency problems

  • Collaborates with operational management to develop and track annual budget results

  • Evaluate and continually improve accounting procedures, processes, and systems to ensure standardized close process and efficient operations

FP&A

  • Oversee corporate model, coordinate with Project Finance to incorporate future development opportunities into scenario analyses

  • Analyze KPIs including areas of revenue, expenses, and capex

  • Forecast and monitor spend across the company and present insights to the leadership team

  • Create and maintain standardized reporting of forecasted financial statements

  • Analyze complex financial information to provide accurate and timely financial recommendations to management

  • Refine financial planning and reporting architecture, ensuring cross-platform data integrity

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; strong preference for CPA

  • Financial modeling and budgeting experience

  • Mid-tier accounting software experience (NetSuite, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) is a plus

  • 8+ years of accounting experience (Big 4 public accounting experience is a plus)

  • 3+ years Controller experience at a public or private equity sponsored company is a plus

  • Electric power industry experience is a plus
