The Opportunity: Commercial Asset Manager

I am working with a renewable energy business that are committed to developing, building, and operating innovative renewable energy hubs and helping to deliver environmentally sustainable, green energy solutions to businesses and local communities.

Their services cover the entire lifecycle of any project including planning, grid connections, project rights development, financing, construction and asset management, power purchase agreements and long-term operations.

Their mission is to create utility scale renewable energy projects using multi-technologies and to take large energy intensive users off-grid.

About the role

The primary responsibilities will be the financial and commercial management of the clients managed assets, i.e. pre-construction / construction and operational solar PV assets and BESS.

The Asset Management team operates from a project’s planning consent to the project preparation for equity financing – this coincides with its divestment - and through the construction and lifetime of an asset, providing support to transactions and ensuring the commercial and financial execution and long-term performance of assets.

As part of the job, you will work closely with various teams such as M&A , finance, legal/cosec, construction delivery and technical asset management colleagues.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Participating in the structuring and development of the clients overall asset management strategy for construction and operational assets.

  • Contract management of key project agreements

  • Ability to support or lead the negotiations of insurance and FX contracts.

  • Setting up various reporting templates, processes, and procedures for CAM during the construction and operational phases.

  • Working closely with the construction delivery and technical asset management teams to ensure the overall commercial implementation and performance of assets.

  • Managing the budgeting process with regular forecast updates and review of funding drawdowns for the construction assets.

  • Forecasting cash flows and cash/currency needs with the support of the internal finance team.

  • Supporting internal reporting, including periodic valuation of the portfolio companies, commentary on construction/operational assets in quarterly reports and inputs into the group business plan etc.

  • Support to the accounting and tax compliance reporting obligations.

  • Support in the audit of the assets.

  • Supporting PPA contracts management, with a particular focus on revenue collection and reporting compliance.

  • Ensuring the pre-defined capital structure is maintained. Managing debt and funding drawdowns and repayments.

  • Keeping a good understanding of the regulatory environment and how the industry operates.

About you

  • Have experience in the renewable energy market, preferably in solar PV.

  • Experience and knowledge of accounting, specifically SPV accounting.

  • Have a working knowledge of typical project contractual frameworks.

  • Be comfortable with financial models and can adapt existing models, including advanced excel skills, e.g., INDEX/MATCH, conditional formatting, Pivot tables and IF statements etc.
