John Walker is a highly respected energy transition advisor with more than four decades of experience across infrastructure, energy, government and capital markets in the Asia-Pacific region. He is widely recognised for his role in accelerating private investment into renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure across both developed and emerging Asian markets.
John spent 24 years at Macquarie Group, serving as Chairman of Macquarie Capital Asia and Chairman of Macquarie Group Korea, where he was instrumental in building the firm’s infrastructure and green investment platforms across Asia. He played a pioneering role in developing private capital solutions for renewable energy and infrastructure, particularly in Korea and North Asia.
Since retiring from executive life in 2020, John has focused on advisory and non-executive roles, supporting investors, corporates and governments navigating the energy transition. He is Chairman of Eastpoint Partners, an Asia-based advisory firm specialising in energy transition strategy, capital formation and cross-border partnerships, and holds a range of board and advisory positions with global infrastructure investors and renewable energy developers.
John is valued for his deep understanding of how policy, capital and local market dynamics intersect in Asia, and is regularly consulted by governments on infrastructure reform and energy transition frameworks. He was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in recognition of his contributions and has lived and worked in Asia for more than two decades.
