The Opportunity

Purse an exciting growth-oriented strategy to help achieve New York’s ambitious clean energy goals. This includes modernization of existing facility and development of new projects, such as battery storage and transmission to deliver clean energy into New York City, as well as other opportunities to play a key role in the energy transition taking place in New York State. 

Essntial Job Functions

  •  Lead the Environmental Management department, which requires this role to: 
    • Monitor national and state changes for environmental policy and regulatory changes 
    • Supervise, lead, mentor, and assign environmental staff to support the objective of developing renewable energy and energy storage assets 
    • Travel to project locations and permitting agencies within the company’s development footprint (New York and New Jersey) 
  • Manage the Environmental Entitlement function, including: 
    • Perform due diligence and fatal flaw analyses related to environmental, regulatory, and constructability issues for new project opportunities  
    • Develop feasible solutions to permitting challenges 
    • Develop and manage permitting budgets and timelines for multiple projects concurrently 
    • Manage environmental consultants performing environmental studies, including wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and/or cultural and historical resources 
    • Develop and coordinate review of environmental/regulatory permit applications 
    • Build and maintain relationships with permitting agencies and negotiate permit language 
    • Coordinate with development managers regarding involvement in public relations, land acquisition, and other project development activities 
  • Manage the Environmental Compliance function, including: 
    • Manage permit compliance for construction and operating projects 
    • Coordinate with asset managers regarding involvement in permit renewals or other related activities  

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in engineering or environmental discipline 
  • 15+ years’ experience in permitting large energy infrastructure projects (electric generation facilities, electric transmission lines, energy storage, natural gas pipelines)  
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Ability to build relationships with internal and external customers 
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, Google Earth, Adobe, GIS, etc.) 
  • Relevant experience in siting and alternative analyses for utility facilities is preferred 
  • Preference for experience with transmission and power siting board approvals
