Vice President, Origination & Power Marketing | Clean Energy Investment Fund
Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill Area (Hybrid)
My client, a well-known clean energy PE fund, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Origination & Power Marketing to lead commercial strategy and execution for both the Fund and its portfolio of Independent Power Producer (IPP) companies.
This role is critical in leading commercial strategy, which includes market entry, power fundamentals and origination/executing off-take agreements for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
The position will lead sourcing and structuring power purchase agreements (PPAs), offtake arrangements, and revenue contracts across a broad range of clean energy assets, including utility-scale solar, wind, storage, and emerging technologies.
Rare opportunity to sit at the PE platform level which will provide unrivalled development and exposure. Role must be based in the Durham HQ.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead origination activity of with focus on building bilateral relationships with utilities, corporates and industrial companies in all the US power markets and zones.
Identify, originate, analyze and structure opportunities in the US energy markets for all types of offtake agreements. Maintain and develop close relationships with counterparties in the region
Develop and execute comprehensive power marketing strategies to optimize the revenue potential of our solar, wind, battery storage, and hybrid assets.
Negotiate and secure financeable PPAs and other offtake agreements for the firm's pipeline of projects. Ensure favorable terms that align with company goals and financial targets.
Address, assess, and negotiate ways to mitigate the main risks related to the offtake agreements (i.e. basis, curtailment, negative, prices, etc.), taking into consideration transmission analysis, among others.
Collaborate with the development, finance, and operations teams to align power marketing efforts with overall company strategy and project timelines. Ensure proposed offtake is technically and operationally feasible and financeable.
Lead the commercialization of any other product or byproduct generated by the portfolio (i.e. iRECs)
Support in sizing and design from a power markets and regulation’s perspective batteries or any other hybridized project.
Define the pricing strategy and execute the participation in capacity payment’s auctions, as well as any other source of revenue due to capacity or energy generated by Heelstone’s assets.
Conduct detailed market analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks in energy markets.
Stay abreast of regulatory changes and market developments affecting the energy sector.
Lead the creation of sales materials, bilateral proposals, and responses to requests for proposals (RFPs)
Create and deliver compelling and customized presentations to potential and existing power purchasers.
Provide regular reports and updates (e.g., monthly) to the team on progress, strategy, etc..

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
5+ years of successfully negotiating and closing PPAs and other energy contracts
Minimum 7+ years’ experience working in the US renewable energy sector for a leading investor, developer, IPP or similar
Experience in a high growth or start up environment
Deep network of corporate/utility industry contacts and brokers across the United States
Experience creating and responding to RFPs for energy offtake arrangements.
Deep understanding of energy markets, pricing mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks.
Detailed knowledge of wholesale power markets and products
Familiarity with project economics analyses and financing (including tax and accounting concepts)
