Role
The Green Recruitment Company are currently working with a well known international investment fund who are looking to employ a Senior Construction Project Manager.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate should possess a wide-ranging background in construction management, preferably in the realms of renewables or sustainability technologies. They should be adept at orchestrating a diverse array of contractors under various contract structures. This individual will excel in coordinating a portfolio of projects at different stages of execution, from FID (Final Investment Decision), FEED (Front-End Engineering Design), planning condition discharge, site mobilization, and on-site tests through to project completion, handover, and subsequent management within the long-term portfolio.
The project pipeline is primarily focused on capital deployment in the UK and Europe. The successful candidate must be at ease overseeing projects across Europe, effectively collaborating with local contractors in each jurisdiction. They should possess the capacity to elucidate complex matters in a straightforward manner, facilitating communication with a wide-ranging audience and adeptly managing both internal and external stakeholders.
Key responsibilities encompass the oversight of development and construction projects as follows:
Collaborating with internal colleagues and third parties to shepherd pipeline projects through the developmental cycle and funding process, including:
Instructing and managing technical advisors tasked with addressing risks and issues identified during due diligence.
Reviewing and negotiating project contracts, especially EPC contracts, DNO and IPC contracts, in partnership with development partners and utilizing third-party legal support.
Overseeing data room reviews to identify material risks to the projects within development and construction information.
Reviewing the business case for investment decisions and validating development and construction risk assumptions within the financial model.
Contributing to the construction risk management components of the investment committee's papers for each project as they progress.
Construction Oversight:
Working in conjunction with internal colleagues and third parties to navigate pipeline projects through construction and into operation, including:
Managing construction for multiple projects at varying stages, ensuring timely and budget-compliant completion.
Overseeing EPC contractors, EPC-M entities, and multi-contract delivery structures.
Supervising DNOs, ICPs, and other utility providers to adhere to EPC project delivery schedules.
Managing disputes or claims raised by contractors to project companies, enlisting third-party legal support as needed.
Monitoring claims and variations, seeking investor consent for necessary adjustments to project budgets.
Scrutinizing HSQE (Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental) performance and contractor reporting, and providing internal reports to the business and investors.
Managing and engaging with owner's engineers, project managers, and technical advisors, including their appointment and scoping.
Financial Management:
Overseeing capital deployment for construction projects to optimize drawdown profiles and adhere to construction budgets, including:
Tracking payment schedules across multiple projects and managing construction cashflows to ensure availability of construction funds and timely payments.
Managing variations, assessing their impact on cashflow, and determining any consequences for investment returns.
Organizing milestone payments and granting approval following TA (Technical Advisor) review.
Managing project budgets and draw-down requests.
Qualifications:
Qualities, Skills, and Experience Required (Essential):
Proficiency with a variety of construction contract forms.
Competence in managing project budgets.
Skill in negotiation across various contractual settings, including pre-contract, claims management, and dispute resolution.
Experience in managing planning condition discharge processes with local authorities.
Familiarity with contestable and non-contestable grid connection works.
Ability to identify and prioritize significant risks to project success while maintaining project schedules.
Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented.
Qualities, Skills, and Experience (Desirable):
Experience in renewable energy construction.
Prior experience in an investment company environment.
Proficiency in European languages.
