About the Opportunity

TGRC is proud to partner with a leading energy enterprise to appoint a Power Trading Director based in Shanghai. This is a pivotal leadership role within a rapidly expanding team focused on navigating and shaping China’s dynamic Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) landscape.

With the Chinese energy market undergoing transformational change – driven by decarbonization, digitalization, and deregulation – this position offers the chance to be at the forefront of commercial strategy and market execution in one of the world’s most active renewable markets.

The Role

As Power Trading Director, you will be responsible for leading commercial trading strategies, developing power purchase and sales agreements, and optimising the company’s position within the Chinese electricity market. You will work closely with senior leadership, portfolio managers, renewable energy developers, and corporate buyers to ensure commercial success across both bilateral and exchange-based transactions.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the company’s power trading strategy aligned with evolving market conditions and corporate objectives.

  • Lead market analysis to identify and respond to regulatory, commercial, and technical developments in the Chinese power sector.

PPA Origination & Execution

  • Originate and structure long-term and short-term PPAs with corporates, developers, and utility partners.

  • Lead contract negotiations and risk management strategies across physical and virtual PPA agreements.

Trading & Risk Management

  • Oversee trading operations across multiple electricity markets (spot, futures, bilateral contracts).

  • Implement sophisticated hedging, pricing, and risk mitigation techniques to ensure profitability and regulatory compliance.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the company’s senior representative in dialogues with regulators, industry associations, and strategic partners.

  • Collaborate with finance, legal, and technical teams to support investment and operational decision-making.

Team Development

  • Build and mentor a high-performing commercial and trading team, with a focus on professional development and market excellence.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking a commercially astute and strategically-minded professional with a deep understanding of China’s evolving PPA and power trading market.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in power trading, energy markets, or renewable energy transactions in China.

  • Proven track record in originating, negotiating, and closing PPAs (including both physical and virtual structures).

  • Strong understanding of NDRC policies, provincial grid rules, and carbon trading mechanisms.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Energy, Finance, Engineering, Economics, or related discipline.

  • Excellent command of Mandarin Chinese; English fluency highly advantageous.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing complex stakeholder relationships.

  • Prior exposure to renewable energy asset management, corporate procurement strategies, or exchange-based electricity trading.

Why Join?

This is a rare opportunity to take on a senior commercial position in one of the world’s most dynamic clean energy markets. You will join a mission-led organisation committed to energy transition, with the resources, vision, and platform to match.
