Client

My client are a leading generator of renewable energy in Great Britain and Ireland. Their Renewables business is responsible for the development, construction and operation of the renewable portfolio, including onshore and offshore wind and hydro. They are now looking for an experienced SHE Advisor to join the Wind Generation team.

Role

The Wind Generation SHE Advisor is responsible for providing support, advice and guidance on all aspects of compliance with the Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) processes and practices across the Wind Generation Business. They will be responsible for supporting Wind sites to achieve compliance with all company standards, statutory responsibilities, associated SHE and related works management and will support in introducing new ones where needed. Supporting the implementation of the Wind Generation SHE Management System, they will ensure that elements of the site SHE management and other delegated responsibilities are regularly audited, reviewed, updated and they reflect the sites operations and best practices. They will prepare formal reports and will carry out investigations, ensuring that investigation reports show reviews and lessons learned.

They will support the implementation and ongoing refinement of the BOWL Safety Management System. Additionally, they will support the Wind Generation training planning process and, where required, develop, provide and participate in toolbox talks, team briefings, Safety stand-downs and contractor engagement etc. Participation will be required at formal and informal SHE/Operations meetings.

The ideal candidate will have a Level 4 or higher safety qualification and ideally will also hold a Level 3 or higher qualification in an environmental discipline such as CIEH Environmental Management. They will ideally hold an audit qualification such as OHSAS 18001 internal auditor, along with an Incident root cause analysis qualification. They should also be a member of a relevant industry body (i.e. IOSH, IIRSM, CIEH, BOHS) and GWO certification would be desirable.

They are expecting the ideal candidate to have experience gained in offshore wind generation however candidates from Oil and Gas Generation and Onshore Renewables may hold the transferable skills we need. A knowledge of onshore wind related construction including substation, cable route and landfall is desirable.

Skills 

  • ability the communicate clearly and communicate key messages at all levels both on and off site. 
  • Skilled at influencing and motivating a large team of multi-disciplined individuals and will set clear goals and objectives that SHE performance can be measured against.
  • Full UK driving licence is essential. This role will involve some UK travel.
