Optimizing Costs for Utility-Scale Renewable Energy Projects

A leading Chinese EPC contractor is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager (Cost Management) to take ownership of financial planning, cost control, and commercial strategy across solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.

This is a key role for a finance-driven commercial leader who can optimize project costs, improve procurement strategies, and maximize profitability in large-scale renewable energy projects. Based in Beijing, this position offers the opportunity to shape the financial efficiency of high-impact, global clean energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Management & Financial Control

• Develop and implement cost control strategies for solar PV and BESS EPC projects.

• Manage budget forecasting, financial reporting, and cost variance analysis to ensure projects stay within financial targets.

• Conduct detailed risk assessments, identifying potential cost overruns and implementing mitigation strategies.

Procurement & Contract Management

• Work closely with procurement teams to negotiate supplier contracts and optimize material costs.

• Oversee tendering, bid evaluation, and subcontractor cost management.

• Ensure contractual compliance, minimizing financial risks and claims.

Stakeholder & Financial Strategy

• Collaborate with project managers and senior leadership to drive commercial decision-making.

• Provide cost-benefit analysis and financial insights to optimize project delivery.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, clients, and key stakeholders.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

• Track project cost performance, cash flow, and financial KPIs.

• Implement data-driven cost management solutions, leveraging analytics and forecasting tools.

• Prepare detailed financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Key Requirements

• Proven experience as a Commercial Manager, Cost Manager, or Senior Quantity Surveyor within solar PV and BESS projects.

• Strong knowledge of cost control methodologies, financial modeling, and procurement strategies.

• Expertise in contract negotiation, budget forecasting, and financial risk management.

• Ability to work with multi-national teams and manage cross-border cost structures.

• Fluent in Mandarin and English; additional language skills are an advantage.

• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and commercial acumen.
