Job description

My client, a large investor and asset manager, are looking for a Technical Asset Manager to help manage an expanding portfolio of gas fired power stations. This portfolio of assets is one of the largest of its kind in the UK,

The role reports to the Thermal Asset Management Director within the business. Your main reponsibilities will be to actively manage all technical aspects of the operations, in particular the relationship with, and performance of, outsource providers and asset performance optimisation.

The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years’ experience working in a reserve power business in an operational role, perhaps with procurement or project management responsibilities. The candidate should have an engineering or technical background and be conversant with the commercial drivers for reserve power, and a broader awareness of UK electricity markets and incentives.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Lead the management of key outsourced partners, under the guidance of the Asset Director
  • Monitor commercial and technical performance of the reserve power portfolio and report internally
  • Review monthly construction and operations reports and report internally, including IC
  • Participate in quarterly Management Meetings
  • Work closely with out-sourced management team to improve operational performance
  • Participate in commercial strategy development
  • Provide oversight of variation orders and construction budgets, cashflows and contingency monitoring,
  • Assist in the monitoring of operational performance, including data continuity checking
  • Monitoring PPA markets and recommending changes where appropriate
  • Evaluating electricity market opportunities including Balancing Mechanism, Capacity Market, Fast Reserve, STOR
  • Lead technical & commercial due diligence associated with sale/purchase/ refinancing
  • Track construction projects to time and budget and issue of internal performance reports
  • Creating and maintaining performance dashboards
  • Identify system improvements and drive change across the team. This will involve working closely with internal and external partners to improve current processes across the portfolio.
  • Provide support to other thermal technology portfolios under management and other ad hoc
    project work, including providing assistant to various transactions across the group.

Significant knowledge of Reserve Power, gained for working within the industry in a technical and/or commercial capacity

  • Knowledge of typical project documents (including O&M and EPC contracts) and experience of managing the needs of project finance providers
  • Good understanding of CDM Regulations and wider HSE practices and requirements
  • Understanding of natural gas supply chain and process optimization
  • Technical knowledge of HV and LV electrical works including experience working with DNOs on connections
  • Technical knowledge of reciprocating engine technology
  • Experience managing construction 

Desirable experiences 

  • Knowledge and experience of private equity deals, project finance and private company valuations, including investment committees and other financial governance
  • Financial management, accounting or forecasting skills
