Job description

Our client is a UK-focused green hydrogen energy company dedicated to helping businesses achieve net zero emissions across heat, power, and transportation needs. As a small yet agile organisation, they bring together some of the leading global voices in the emerging green hydrogen market. Their mission is rooted in a strong commitment to addressing climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the adoption of renewable energy sources.

As the first dedicated green hydrogen energy company in the UK, our client offers a unique opportunity to gain deep insight into both the potential and the practical challenges of deploying green hydrogen solutions. Team members are involved in some of the most innovative and complex decarbonisation projects in the UK — and potentially the world — directly contributing to the country’s Net Zero ambitions. The company culture supports regular engagement with senior management and provides team members with a high degree of autonomy, ownership of project workstreams, and direct client and supplier interaction.

This is an ideal opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to expand their knowledge, take on responsibility, and accelerate their career in a rapidly evolving sector.

The Role

Our client is seeking a capable individual to join their small Finance Team to support the company’s continued growth. The successful candidate will play a key role in day-to-day bookkeeping and cash management, assist in the preparation of consolidated financial accounts, and contribute to management and stakeholder reporting.

The ideal candidate will be a part-qualified or fully qualified accountant, experienced in working within small finance teams and capable of operating independently to deliver accurate and timely reporting. A passion for sustainability and a desire to understand the broader business beyond financial data is essential.

This role will report directly to the Financial Controller and will include the following responsibilities:

  • Manage all accounting operations through the finance mailbox, including preparation of sales invoices and purchase orders, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.

  • Resolve supplier queries and follow up on outstanding debts.

  • Conduct regular bank reconciliations to maintain an accurate overview of the company’s cash position.

  • Record, categorise, and reconcile all financial transactions to ensure accurate financial records.

  • Lead the month-end close process efficiently, including preparation of prepayment and accrual journals.

  • Set up and manage weekly payment runs to ensure suppliers are paid in line with agreed terms.

  • Work closely with the Management Accountant and Financial Controller to provide timely and accurate financial information to internal teams and external stakeholders.

Required Experience

Our client values individuals who are proactive, quick to learn, and eager to contribute to an exciting company operating in a rapidly expanding industry. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, be confident in expressing their ideas, and demonstrate a critical, solutions-oriented mindset.

Candidates should have:

  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and financial reporting tools.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and confidence in engaging with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Preferred Experience

  • Previous experience in an accounts assistant or similar finance role.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Business Central / NAV as an ERP system.

  • Experience working in the renewables or sustainability sector within a small finance team.
