Service Engineer
Job description
The ESS Services Engineer is responsible for supporting the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of utility-scale and commercial Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring successful project handover into long-term service agreements (LTSA), as well as providing ongoing technical support throughout the operational lifecycle.
The position requires strong expertise in system integration, power systems, and energy storage technologies, with a focus on performance optimization, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Support the transition of projects from construction/commissioning into long-term O&M, ensuring all engineering actions and punch list items are completed.
Review and validate project documentation, including design specifications, system interfaces, block diagrams, and technical drawings.
Provide advanced technical support for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and root cause analysis (RCA) during system operations.
Act as a technical interface with customers, subcontractors, and field teams to resolve complex system issues.
Interpret and validate single-line diagrams, schematics, and switching procedures for BESS systems.
Ensure compliance with project specifications, integration requirements, and applicable industry standards.
Develop and implement work instructions and action plans for field technicians and service teams.
Coordinate and support annual performance testing, including report generation for clients.
Contribute technical input during bid and proposal phases and provide feedback from operational projects to improve future designs.
Apply engineering best practices and lessons learned to improve system performance and reliability.
Create technical documentation, including service bulletins and engineering reports.
Support continuous improvement initiatives through issue tracking and product feedback processes.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field
Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in electrical or systems engineering
Strong knowledge of power systems, energy storage, and control systems
Experience with BESS integration and system-level design
Required Skills & Knowledge
Solid understanding of power generation and energy markets
Ability to analyze complex systems and perform root cause analysis
Experience working with technical documentation, schematics, and system diagrams
Strong communication skills with the ability to interface with customers and cross-functional teams
Knowledge of industry standards such as NFPA 855, UL9540, UL9540A, UL1973, UL1642, UL1741SA, or similar
