Project Finance Associate

*Based in SF, but open to remote on the West Coast.*

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Project Finance Analyst / Associate to support financial analysis, modeling, and project structuring efforts. Reporting to the Head of Project Finance & Capital Markets, this role will collaborate across teams to ensure successful project development and execution.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Analysis & Modeling

  • Build and maintain complex financial models, including project finance models, discounted cash flow (DCF) analyses, and valuation models

  • Perform sensitivity analyses and scenario modeling to evaluate risk and returns

  • Conduct financial due diligence, including review of contracts and project documentation

Project Financing

  • Support structuring and execution of financing transactions (tax equity, construction debt, mezzanine debt, and term debt)

  • Coordinate with lenders, investors, and financial partners

  • Prepare investment memos, presentations, and supporting analyses

Project Planning & Coordination

  • Assist with project scheduling and milestone tracking

  • Support resource allocation to optimize project execution

  • Identify risks and contribute to mitigation strategies

Financial Reporting & Tracking

  • Review cost estimates and development budgets

  • Monitor project expenditures and track performance against budgets

  • Prepare regular reports on financial and project performance

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, legal, and development teams

  • Provide updates to internal stakeholders and external partners

  • Maintain organized and comprehensive project documentation

Market Research & Strategy

  • Analyze renewable energy market trends, policies, and regulatory developments

  • Identify risks and opportunities impacting project economics

  • Support strategic decision-making with data-driven insights

Compliance & Reporting

  • Prepare financial forecasts, budgets, and performance reports

  • Ensure compliance with financing agreements and reporting requirements

  • Support internal and external audits

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, or related field

  • Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., CFA, CPA) are a plus

Experience

  • 2–5 years of experience in project finance, investment banking, corporate finance, or related fields

  • Experience in renewable energy or infrastructure projects is strongly preferred

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling

  • Strong understanding of project finance structures (debt, equity, tax equity)

  • Familiarity with renewable energy financing (e.g., PPAs, tax credits)
