Job description

The Job:

To proactively develop the company's PV business in Mexico providing short and long-term profitability from project development. This is a key role within the growing Mexican team and is a fundamental part of the company’s international expansion strategy. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter with a proven track record in renewable project development and in the wholesale electricity market. This position will be based in Mexico City, Mexico. This is a fantastic opportunity to help develop a leadign Mexican business and strategic direction. This position will require travel outside of Mexico City to various locations in Mexico and potentially also to other LATAM countries.

  • Development Responsibility: responsible for the whole development process including land search and all the permits and authorisations to bring the project to the RTB status
  • Knowledge of the energy sector in Mexico, of the Energy Reform including the Auction and PPA markets
  • Budgetary Responsibility: responsible for helping to define the annual Mexican budget
  • Technical Responsibility: qualifying opportunities from a technical perspective as it relates to the development of existing and new sites to the construction viability of PV plants at the proposed sites

Key activities and responsibilities:

  • Finding technically and commercially attractive PV opportunities in Mexico
  • Identifying and qualifying co-development and investor partners
  • Working with the Mexican and London teams to develop utility scale  projects in the country as a source of development and EPC profits
  • Working closely and negotiating with land agents, land owners, third party consulting companies and central and local Government authorities (CENACE, SENER, CRE, SEMARNAT etc) to secure exclusivities, lease options, grid connections, EIA/SIA, construction permits
  • Creating commercial proposals for customers and investors
  • Periodically reporting on project pipeline and forecast in the company CRM system
  • Reporting and recording on policy and legislation developments
  • Understanding country requirements re: local content, tax and other barriers to entry. Finding solutions to overcome these barriers.
  • Delivering the annual revenue and margin budget
  • Local and some international travel

Skills (including Specialist Skills)/ Experience / Attributes

  • Excellent knowledge of the project development process
  • Proven track record in high value high tech international sales
  • Highly self-motivated
  • Contract negotiation (co-development, lease/options, EPC and O+M)
  • Strong initiative and creative thinking
  • Fluent in English and Spanish (Native)
  • Ability to work individually and as a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Managing development budget
  • Proven track record of delivering/exceeding revenue and margin targets
  • Strong networking capability
  • Existing relationships with investors, central Gov and local authorities, other project developers, supply chain partners
  • Understanding of PV and competing technologies
  • Understanding and use of financial modelling
  • Willingness to travel extensively
