The Opportunity

The Green Recruitment Company are working with a multinational professional services company covering design, engineering, architecture and advisory services to the built environment. Their Science and Healthcare Engineering team have an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join their established team. The candidate should be focused and excited by technically interesting work on cutting-edge projects.

The successful candidate will become a permanent member of their creative, friendly team and play a key role in some of the most exciting and innovative technical building projects happening today. This person will be expected to drive the mechanical design team for lab and hospital projects from inception to completion and will work closely with a wide range of subject matter experts, manage small teams and progress quickly into the role of mechanical discipline lead. They will need to demonstrate the motivation, empathy and perception required to build strong working relationships swiftly and effectively, with world-class architects, as the lead consultant to major global clients and with their new team. 

 

Responsibilities

The client are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer with specific laboratory and healthcare experience.
You will work within a multi-disciplinary design team where you will be providing guidance on the design of mechanical building systems, including specific healthcare ventilation design (Theatres, Isolation rooms, Imaging suites, Aseptic suites, ancillary clinical areas) and laboratory ventilation design (Category 1, 2, 3 containment laboratories, Fume cupboards, MBSCs, clean rooms etc). 

This will include:

  • Development of appropriate building energy strategies and sustainability strategies for buildings, including communicating and agreeing on these plans with the project team members and relevant authorities
  • Producing engineering designs, calculations and specifications, using appropriate technical software
  • Supervising and coordinating the work of others and coordinating work with engineers of other disciplines
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Test (FATs) for key plant and equipment as well as attending site during construction and commissioning to ensure successful project delivery
  • Support the Project Manager and Project Director in the commercial management of the project
  • Participate in and lead bids for new opportunities including developing fee proposals and attending interviews

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of specific UK laboratory and healthcare regulatory requirements (HTMs, HBNs, Building Regulations, BSs for Fume Cupboards etc)
  • Strong Mechanical design experience
  • A good understanding of Revit
  • Experience with CQC qualification and approvals
  • Relevant Mechanical Engineering degree 
  • Chartered Engineer status or currently working towards this 
  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers
