Manager – Transmission & Interconnection

Reports to – VP, Transmission & Interconnection

Location: San Diego, CA (hybrid setting)

Summary:

The Manager – Transmission & Interconnection will be responsible for strategic assessment and managing the interconnection process in target markets mainly across CAISO, ERCOT, and NYISO supporting the company’s overall development goals. The position will be responsible for transmission related topics including tariffs, planning, accessibility, and overall interconnection process. The role will support new greenfield development and managing all interconnection related items. The position will engage in external communication with agencies, utilities, and consultants in support of project development.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and strategic guidance to our Development Engineering team.

  • Follow the interconnection process from submission of interconnection request to the initiation of construction.

  • Support the development of electrical designs for collection system, project substations and gen-ties.

  • Review interconnection, system impact, facilities, and SSI studies and resolve technical and schedule issues.

  • Performs PSS/E, PSLF, Powerworld, or Tara analysis to support the following activities:

-Injection capability analysis to identify green field locations

-Dynamic simulation to support interconnection applications

  • Support project financing by responding to financial parties during due diligence.

  • Oversee the generator interconnection process schedule:

-Accomplishment of milestones and due date of deposits (refundable and no refundable)

-Assist Engineering and Procurement agreements with utilities and ISO/RTOs.

  • Provide strategic insights about the transmission market and policy changes to inform and advance the Company’s investment decisions.

  • Advocate for the Company’s interests with relevant electricity markets and industry groups.

  • Research and report on transmission system developments projects (regulated and private) that benefit the Company’s portfolio and new projects.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required. Master’s degree with emphasis on power system is preferred

  • Minimum of 3-5 years in transmission aspects of renewable energy project development

  • Existing relationships with ISOs/RTOs (e.g., NYISO, ERCOT, and CAISO) and experience with their interconnection processes

  • Proficient in power flow model (PSLF, PSSE, or Powerworld), knowledge of TARA is an asset

  • Capable of performing power flow and dynamic analysis

  • Experience negotiating with counterparties.

  • Microsoft Office Suite, Google Earth.

  • Ability to travel as needed (minimal travel anticipated).
