Job description
TGRC has been retained by a leading UK infrastructure services provider at the forefront of the high-voltage power sector. They are a key delivery partner on National Grid frameworks, delivering HV and EHV substation design, upgrades, and refurbishment projects across the UK. The business offers a collaborative engineering environment where experienced engineers can work on technically complex, large-scale projects with real impact on the UK’s energy network.
This is a principal-level position for a highly experienced design engineer focusing on protection and control within substation design for National Grid projects.
The Role
Principal-level experience is required
Extensive detailed design experience for National Grid projects is essential
Ideally, the candidate should have a CDAE (Contract Design Approval Engineer) appointment on National Grid projects, enabling them to sign off detailed designs and submit them to National Grid
Ability to produce designs that can be successfully constructed, commissioned, and handed over to the client
Strong appetite for attending sites to address construction-related issues, verify designs against site conditions, and update designs accordingly
Your Profile
Degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar)
8+ years in electrical design, with 4+ years on UK transmission projects (NGET, SSEN)
Deep knowledge of HV substations (132kV–400kV) and UK standards
Hands-on experience with protection relays, CT/VT sizing, and AC/DC drawings
