Head of Grid

Job description

We’re working with a fast-growing BESS developer, owner and operator that is backed by a major European investment fund and has the capital and ambition to build a significant battery storage platform across Europe.

The business is already working on multi-hundred MW projects in Germany, including large-scale, TSO-connected BESS assets, and is now looking for a Head of Grid – Germany to take ownership of the grid function as the portfolio continues to grow.

This is a key hire for the business. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the German grid strategy, work directly with TSOs and other grid stakeholders, and build out the grid team as the company scales.

The role

You’ll be responsible for the grid connection strategy across the German portfolio, working closely with development, engineering, commercial and investment teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading grid connection strategy for large-scale BESS projects across Germany

  • Managing relationships with TSOs, DSOs and other key grid stakeholders

  • Taking projects through the grid connection process from early development through to connection

  • Supporting site selection and project development from a grid perspective

  • Managing external consultants and technical advisors

  • Identifying and managing grid-related risks across the portfolio

  • Working closely with the wider European team to develop the company's grid strategy

  • Building and growing the German grid team as the portfolio expands

What we're looking for

We’re looking for someone who knows the German grid market well and has experience working on large-scale power infrastructure projects.

You should have:
  • Strong experience with grid connections in Germany

  • Ideally, experience dealing directly with TSOs

  • Background in BESS, renewables, power infrastructure or a related sector

  • Good understanding of the German transmission and distribution network

  • Experience managing grid connection processes and negotiations

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

  • The ambition to build and lead a team

  • C1+ German and B2+ English – both required

Why this role?

The scale and backing of the business make this a particularly interesting time to join. You’ll be working on multi-hundred MW BESS projects, backed by a significant European investment fund, with the financial capacity to actually deliver the pipeline. There’s also plenty of room to make the role your own. The intention is to build a substantial German team and, over time, expand the platform into other European markets. There is therefore genuine scope for this role to develop into a broader European leadership position.
