Job description

We are seeking a seasoned GIS Professional to be part of an Information Technology department whose primary focus is on supporting the GIS technology platforms and broader GIS virtual team.

This virtual team works collaboratively across business functions and organizational lines to meet existing business needs, deliver solutions, manage the existing platforms, and engage the appropriate resources as needed.

Geospatial data is utilized by several business units throughout the organization and the team interacts frequently with others to provide the support needed and refine the deliverable where possible.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in GIS, Geography, or Computer Science with 10 of relevant experience in GIS administration.

  • Expert knowledge and hands-on experience of Esri’s suite of software products including ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal, Server, and Data Store), ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Pro.

  • Strong understanding of IT networks and client-server concepts.

  • Experience with MS SQL Server databases including strong knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL)

  • Proficiency with front-end design languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • Good understanding of internet and web technologies that enable web-based applications (e.g., HTML, CSS, JSON, XML, TCPIP, Web servers, firewalls, digital certificates, and TLS).

  • Proficiency working with and managing Esri ArcSDE geodatabases including data modeling, geodatabase design, and maintenance.

  • Proficiency with Python scripting for customizing ArcGIS Geoprocessing tasks.

  • Strong knowledge of data modeling and geodatabase design.

Key Responsibilities

ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online Systems Administration

  • Performs GIS system administration tasks in an ArcGIS Enterprise environment.

  • Deployment of new GIS functionality in ArcGIS Enterprise and/or ArcGIS Online.

  • Maintains the corporate GIS systems architecture, servers, software, and associated components including installations, upgrades, and patch management.

  • Python scripting to automate administrative or data management tasks

  • Maintains logins for the GIS department.

  • Monitoring and improving map service and database performance using native tools and/or additional add-on or partner solutions.

  • Assists the GIS department to manage the base map library in ArcGIS Portal and/or ArcGIS Online.

  • Works with Project Management, IT staff, and GIS team to deliver internal projects relating to the Enterprise GIS.

  • Troubleshooting and support of GIS systems.

  • Assists GIS Manager, architects, and others on the team in developing corporate standards and direction for the ArcGIS Enterprise.

  • Proactively stays current with industry trends and new developments in Esri’s ArcGIS software.

  • Recommends and implements measures to improve the efficiency and cybersecurity of the platform.

  • Assists with integrations with other internal applications.

ArcGIS Enterprise Geodatabases

  • Provide support in the maintenance of SQL Server Geodatabases and their usage in Enterprise GIS applications.

  • Proactive monitoring and management of geodatabases to ensure high availability, performance, capacity, and optimization.

  • Provides database development support in creating cartographic and data applications.

  • Ability to predict growth based on application and data usage patterns and to implement the necessary database changes to accommodate the growth.

  • Run diagnostic tools to identify database performance bottlenecks and take appropriate corrective actions to improve database performance.

  • Perform any necessary database-related scripting, Geodatabase normalization, or Data ETL procedures.

  • Assists GIS users of the Enterprise GIS with access to geospatial data.

  • Provides assistance in the design and development of GIS data warehouses.

  • Provide support on all stages of database implementation and/or database-related deployments, upgrades, tests, and validations.

  • Implements multiple types of database integrity including entity integrity, referential integrity, check constraints, and database triggers.

  • Works closely with internal IT Database administrators to support the items above.
