THE OPPORTUNITY:

Our client, a growing renewable energy company is looking to hire a Director, Data Strategy who can identify new data-driven revenue opportunities to compliment the current suite of energy market solutions.

Our client currently advise on renewable energy asset and portfolio M&A transactions, market entry, trading & hedging, and assisting corporates & C&I businesses find and negotiate power purchase agreements. They need a Data Strategy Director who can unlock the strategic potential within the existing and new data assets throughout energy markets, renewable energy development and financial services. The company has access to significant data points relating to the US and international energy markets, that could easily be utilised into an additional revenue stream.

 

Role Description:

The Director, Data Strategy is responsible for identifying, coordinating and driving data-driven revenue opportunities within our clients growing suite of solutions. We’re looking for someone with compelling experience unlocking the strategic potential within existing and new data assets, especially in the energy markets, renewables development and/or financial services space.

This is a commercial role first and foremost, but meaningful analytical experience and a strong foundation in the technical principles of big data, APIs, and usage of Machine Learning and AI will be important.

Even more important will be the demonstrated ability to work effectively as a matrix leader, collaborating with colleagues across functions to: quickly catalogue data assets; assess and understand market, technical and business needs; develop and champion new business cases; and then bring new solutions to market.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Identifying, recommending, and building the company’s data strategy roadmap
  • Working with stakeholders across the organization to identify current and potential data assets that can be turned into new data-driven products and services
  • Analyzing existing customer segments and identifying new customer segments and generating
  • data-driven value propositions with the greatest revenue opportunities
  • Assessing a range of data monetization alternatives, and developing a clear strategy tailored to each data product
  • Leading collaboration across Product, Marketing, and Sales teams to develop and execute the go-to-market strategy, including participating in early-stage customer engagement efforts
  • Representing the company in meetings with prospective data collaboration partners
  • Monitoring the competitive landscape, industry trends, and customer needs to evolve the commercial strategy for data solutions
  • Establishing and tracking data solution performance against KPIs and metrics, and championing solutions to address shortfalls
  • Owning internal data solutions from ideation through customer revenue

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong understanding of and demonstrated experience managing customer data platforms and data products
  • 5+ years experience in data asset management, data product development, and/or data monetization
  • Energy markets data experience with working knowledge of renewable energy (solar, wind and
  • storage) and other sustainability markets preferred
  • A passion for accelerating the energy transition and addressing the climate crisis
  • A natural bias for action, a sense of urgency, and a demonstrated ability to work independently in a
  • flexible, fast-changing environment
  • Proven track record identifying, evaluating and championing new business opportunities to senior management
  • Strong financial modeling skills
  • Excellent project management, organization and executive communication skills
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • The highest level of integrity and professionalism
  • MBA or equivalent advanced business degree preferred
