Commercial Director

Job description

TGRC partnered with a high-growth clean energy company developing a new approach to long-duration energy storage, designed to make renewable power more reliable and usable at grid scale. The business is now entering its first commercial phase and is hiring a Commercial Director to define go-to-market strategy and secure initial deployments.

The Role
  • You will own and execute the commercial strategy from first deployment through to scalable growth.

  • This includes defining the route to market, securing initial customers and partners, and building the commercial function required to support international expansion.

  • You will sit at the intersection of engineering, finance, and policy, translating a technically differentiated product into a viable commercial offering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the go-to-market strategy for a novel long-duration energy storage solution

  • Identify and secure first-of-a-kind commercial projects, partnerships, and revenue streams

  • Structure and negotiate complex, high-value contracts in an emerging technology environment

  • Develop bankable commercial models, including revenue stacking across wholesale, capacity, and flexibility markets

  • Own the customer strategy, shaping product development through direct market feedback

  • Build and manage a high-performing commercial team as the business scales

  • Lead engagement with key stakeholders across utilities, developers, investors, and government bodies

  • Identify and secure non-dilutive and strategic funding opportunities

  • Establish commercial processes, governance, and reporting frameworks at board level

What This Role Requires
  • Proven experience commercialising energy infrastructure, storage, or complex energy technologies

  • Strong understanding of energy markets, with the ability to translate market mechanisms into revenue models

  • Track record of structuring and closing multi-million pound deals in complex environments

  • Experience operating in ambiguity, ideally within a scale-up or new market context

  • Ability to define strategy and execute it directly, without reliance on large teams or established playbooks

  • Strong stakeholder management across technical, financial, and policy environments

  • Credibility to operate at board level and influence senior decision-making

Advantageous
  • Experience in long-duration storage, hydropower, or grid-scale infrastructure

  • Exposure to international energy markets

  • Background in project development, asset financing, or infrastructure investment

  • Experience bringing new or first-of-a-kind technologies to market
