The Opportunity

TGRC is supporting a major renewable energy developer with anticipated contract requirements across a large onshore wind construction portfolio in Finland.

We are looking to speak with experienced Substation Managers / SUB Managers with strong construction-phase experience across substations, transformers, grid infrastructure and renewable energy projects.

This role is suited to someone who can supervise substation and transformer works on site, coordinate contractors, monitor quality and progress, and support the successful delivery of key electrical infrastructure within an onshore wind project.

The Role

The Substation Manager will be responsible for supervising day-to-day construction activities relating to the substation and transformer scope on behalf of the client.

The role will involve working closely with the Site Manager, Construction Project Manager, Grid Manager, contractors and wider project team to ensure works are delivered safely, professionally and in line with project requirements, specifications and programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise construction activities relating to substation and transformer scopes.

  • Monitor contractor progress, quality and performance against contractual requirements.

  • Ensure construction works are delivered in line with agreed specifications, standards and scope of supply.

  • Work closely with the Site Manager and project team to support key construction milestones.

  • Monitor contractor QA/QC and HSE performance at field level.

  • Coordinate interfaces between civil, foundations, e-BoP, substation, transformer, OHL and turbine scopes.

  • Support the Construction Project Manager and Site Manager with progress follow-up and project deliverables.

  • Review and coordinate proposed additional works with the Site Manager.

  • Participate in design meetings and review required drawings, design information and technical documentation.

  • Identify and escalate risks, deviations, quality issues or schedule concerns.

  • Represent the client professionally with contractors, consultants, grid stakeholders and project partners.

Requirements

  • Degree-qualified in electrical engineering or a related discipline.

  • Strong experience supervising substation, transformer or grid infrastructure works.

  • Experience in onshore wind, renewable energy, transmission, distribution or major electrical infrastructure projects.

  • Good understanding of substation construction, transformer interfaces and electrical installation works.

  • Strong knowledge of QA/QC and HSE requirements on construction sites.

  • Ability to coordinate contractors and manage multiple technical interfaces.

  • Strong planning, communication, reporting and problem-solving skills.

  • Good understanding of best practice in substation, grid and wind farm solutions.

  • Experience using MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint.

  • Fluency in Finnish and English.
