Industrial Engineer - Solar
Job description
A fast-growing solar cell manufacturer is looking for an Industrial Engineer to support the ramp-up and optimization of a high-volume solar cell production facility. The position sits close to production, process engineering, quality, equipment, and operations leadership, with a clear focus on improving manufacturing efficiency, line balance, throughput, yield, labor-utilization, and cost performance across a solar cell production environment.
The role would suit someone who enjoys being on the floor, working with real production constraints, using data properly, and turning process problems into measurable operational improvements.
Key responsibilities
Analyze current manufacturing workflows, identify bottlenecks across the production line, and lead improvement projects that increase output, reduce waste, improve labor efficiency, and support stable production ramp-up.
Conduct time studies, motion studies, line balancing, capacity analysis, workstation/layout reviews, and production data analysis.
Use production data to track cycle time, throughput, downtime, yield, efficiency, and labor productivity.
Lead Lean / Six Sigma / continuous improvement projects with measurable operational impact.
Support capacity planning, manpower planning, production reporting, standard work, Lean implementation, and continuous improvement projects across a high-volume solar cell manufacturing operation.
Partner with production and engineering teams to improve standard work, process discipline, and floor execution.
Work with quality and maintenance teams to reduce defects, improve equipment reliability, and stabilize output.
Mentor junior engineers and support the development of stronger IE practices across the site.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
5+ years of industrial engineering experience in solar cell, semiconductor, battery, electronics, PV module, or other high-volume technical manufacturing environments.
Strong hands-on experience with time studies, workflow analysis, line balancing, capacity planning, and process optimization.
Good understanding of Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and root-cause problem solving.
Strong Excel and data analysis capability; experience with Minitab or similar tools is helpful.
Comfortable working directly on the production floor in a high-volume manufacturing setting.
Able to communicate clearly with operators, supervisors, engineers, and senior operations leaders.
Experience with MES, ERP, manufacturing dashboards, automation, robotics, or advanced manufacturing systems.
Prior experience supporting production ramp-up, factory scale-up, or new line stabilization is preferred.
