Head of Project Finance

Job description

Our client is seeking a Head of Project Finance to lead project and portfolio-level financing, developer engagement, credit underwriting and investor-ready asset structuring across a growing distributed energy pipeline.

This is a key platform-building role for someone who can bridge renewable energy project finance, developer-side execution and structured capital markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead financing processes for distributed energy assets, including solar, storage and EV charging projects.

  • Structure and negotiate project debt, tax equity, sponsor equity, warehouse facilities, tax credit transfers, refinancing and asset-backed financing solutions.

  • Manage developer relationships, project documentation, due diligence and financing readiness across the pipeline.

  • Assess project-level credit quality, including developer strength, contracted cash flows, customer/offtaker profile, collateral, documentation completeness and overall financing suitability.

  • Coordinate with legal, technical, tax, insurance, credit, KYC/AML and compliance advisors.

  • Support portfolio-level financing strategies, including securitization, asset-backed structures, refinancing and asset sales.

  • Work closely with capital formation and investor-facing teams to translate project-level credit risk into a clear investment narrative.

  • Build a repeatable framework for qualifying developers, underwriting assets and preparing projects for institutional capital.

Requirements
  • 10+ years of experience in project finance, structured finance, capital markets, private credit or renewable energy finance.

  • Strong exposure to distributed energy assets, ideally residential solar, community solar, C&I solar, solar + storage, EV charging or broader distributed generation.

  • Proven track record closing project-level or portfolio-level financing transactions.

  • Strong understanding of tax equity, project debt, partnership flips, sale-leasebacks, tax credit transfers, warehouse facilities, non-recourse debt, securitization or asset-backed lending.

  • Experience working with developers, lenders, tax equity investors, infrastructure funds, private credit providers, advisors and institutional investors.

  • Comfortable working in an early-stage, high-growth platform environment.
