Investment Manager – Energy Storage / BESS Investments

Job description

Investment Manager – Energy Storage / BESS Investments

Location: Tokyo, Japan / Hybrid
Sector: Renewable Energy Infrastructure / Battery Energy Storage
Function: Investment, Fundraising, Asset Analysis, Investor Relations

About the Opportunity

An established international renewable energy and infrastructure investor is expanding its presence in Japan and is seeking an Investment Manager to support the growth of its battery energy storage platform.

The business has already built a strong foundation in the Japanese market through strategic partnerships and the creation of a dedicated fund focused on grid-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). As Japan’s energy storage market continues to develop, this is an opportunity to join at an important stage of growth and play a direct role in deploying capital into assets that support the energy transition.

This role would suit a commercially minded investment professional with strong financial modelling capability, an interest in sustainable infrastructure, and the ability to operate confidently across investors, partners, technical teams and senior leadership.

The Role

As Investment Manager, you will support investment decision-making, fundraising, market analysis and investor engagement across the company’s Japanese energy storage activities. You will work closely with senior investment leaders, commercial teams and technical specialists to evaluate opportunities, prepare investment materials and help shape the company’s continued growth in Japan.

Key Responsibilities

You will take a leading role in assessing new and existing investment opportunities, including building and reviewing financial models, analysing valuation scenarios and supporting investment committee decision-making.

You will prepare detailed financial analysis for target assets, with a particular focus on DCF, project finance and cash flow modelling.

You will support the company’s fundraising activity, including investor outreach, preparation of marketing and investment materials, coordination of due diligence processes and participation in meetings with potential investors and stakeholders.

You will monitor the Japanese energy storage market, including regulatory developments, policy changes, competitor activity and market trends, and translate these insights into clear reports for the wider investment team.

You will lead analysis of target assets and due diligence reports, providing clear recommendations to senior leadership.

You will also support investor relations, including ongoing communication with LP investors and strategic partners, reporting, information requests and updates relating to fund activity and portfolio development.

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate is likely to bring:

  • 5–10 years’ experience in investment banking, infrastructure investment, private equity, management consulting, strategic consulting, corporate development or business development.

  • Strong financial analysis and modelling skills, ideally including DCF, project finance, cash flow and valuation models.

  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, with the ability to produce polished investor-facing materials.

  • Experience in renewable energy infrastructure, with direct exposure to BESS highly advantageous.

  • Strong analytical judgement and the ability to convert complex commercial, financial and regulatory information into clear recommendations.

  • A genuine interest in private investment, renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure.

  • Native-level Japanese language skills.

  • English language skills would be advantageous but are not essential.

  • Ability to work from the Tokyo office on a hybrid basis.

A bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree in business, finance, economics or a related discipline would be preferred.

Why Apply?

This is a rare opportunity to join an international investor at a formative stage in its Japanese energy storage strategy.

You will be close to decision-making, involved in high-value infrastructure investments, and able to contribute directly to the development of a fast-growing sector that is central to Japan’s energy transition.

The company offers an open, inclusive and collaborative working environment, and as the Japanese team grows, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape the local working culture, policies and operating model.

For an investment professional looking to move deeper into renewable infrastructure, energy storage and sustainable private investment, this is a compelling platform with significant long-term potential.
