Job title: Power System Studies Manager

Location: United States (Remote)

TGRC is looking for a Power System Studies Manager to join a world-leading consultancy delivering sustainable design and engineering solutions.

This is a senior Technical Leadership position within the Power Delivery unit.

Role description:

The role will consist of the coordination and development of the power system engineering team, business development and leading/performing planning and feasibility studies, interconnection studies, transient studies and systems analysis investigations. You will collaborate with other Power Delivery departments, consisting of the Substation, Transmission, Protection & Control Engineering, Distribution and EV Technology teams.

You will be experienced with key North American Market Operators (i.e. MISO, PJM, NE-ISO, NY-ISO, ERCOT, SSP, AESO, IESO) policies, guidelines, regulations and rules.

Role accountabilities:

  • Manage and grow a team of power system engineers and see to their continuous technical development.

  • Lead and oversee the continuous development of enhanced power system planning & studies processes, methodologies and tools for quality and efficiencies.

  • Perform/coordinate power systems analysis activities including load-flow, short-circuit, transient stability, electromagnetic transient, small-signal stability analysis, reliability analysis etc.

  • Preparation of functional specifications for facility requirements related to different system development portfolios, for purposes of developing preliminary designs and obtaining estimates for the associated facilities.

Additionally, this position may involve travel of up to 25% to client sites and customer meetings, both within North America and potentially internationally.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering degree

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in power system analysis and planning

  • Proficient with the PSSE software package. Experience with alternative planning software applications, including TARA, PSLF, DigSILENT, or DSA Tools, is highly desirable.

  • Proficient in PSCAD simulations with a particular focus on the detailed modelling of renewable power sources and carrying out AC and HVDC studies.
