Head of Land – Dublin
Renewable Energy Generation
My Client is seeking a Head of Land to manage and motivate existing and future members of the land, GIS and planning teams and to manage external consultants and legal advisors. The successful candidate should have significant experience of managing a large, diverse and geographically dispersed portfolio of renewable energy projects. A high profile and demanding role, you will work very closely with the CDO and senior members of the Development Team, including Head of Construction and Power Systems Manager. You will also work closely with the Commercial Team to ensure that pipeline targets are identified and assessed from a land and planning perspective.
lead and co-ordinate the multi-disciplinary EIA team and land team to deliver project requirements;
oversee the day-to-day land activity within the Group, across all technologies at a grid scale and Behind the Meter (“BTM”);
develop an annual operating plan and budget that supports the Group’s long term strategy. Such plan to include readily collated metrics to track performance of the activity under your control against agreed budget and value creation milestones;
with respect to operational matters, ensure effective communications and early resolution of issues;
assess and manage the principal risks of the Group’s business within land (e.g. regulatory and technical);
create and keep up to date Landowner contact sheets, agreements and payment details (and liaise with finance department to ensure payments are made in an accurate and timely manner, ensuring that appropriate contractual documentation is in place to permit payment);
communicate with the Commercial Team on a regular basis to ensure a constant flow of information is maintained and that projects are progressing through the value creation stages within the agreed timeframe.

mentor and manage planning, GIS and land team members
develop and maintain an effective succession plan for the position;
assist the CDO in establishing an appropriate team structure to optimise efficiency;
ensure the timely evaluation of the performance of all staff under your leadership;
Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationship building skills;
perform other functions related to the position of the Head of Land or as may be requested by the CDO or the Executive Board.
Skills and Qualifications:
10-15+ years’ experience in a senior management role with a strong operational focus
Demonstrate leadership ability, team management and interpersonal skills;
Possess an excellent working knowledge in securing all legal land agreements required to develop, finance and build renewable energy projects
Have a strong understanding of land legal issues in both UK and Republic of Ireland, and the need for documentation to be suitable for project finance;
Highly developed verbal and written communications skills. Contributes positively through clear communication personal impact and behavioural flexibility.
Good working knowledge of all renewable energy technologies and all stages of energy project development preferably including construction;
Ability to effectively lead land and planning inputs in due diligence of M&A targets;
Excellent understanding of Regulatory environment impacting on renewable energy
Highly efficient and works well under pressure;
Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organisation skills;
Resourceful – ability to think through possible ways to address a challenge;
Champions continuous improvement in all processes, but doesn’t allow perfect to get in the way of progress;
Track record of on-time, on-budget delivery;
Analyses problems, thinks creatively, and makes effective decisions in the appropriate timescale;
Creates a climate in which people want to do their best by providing appropriate challenge, support and direction;
Good relationship/stakeholder management skills;
Is able to create a positive climate and influence others to get things done;
Demonstrates leadership ability, team management and interpersonal skills.
