Energy Risk Manager

The Client:

The Green Recruitment Company are working alongside a fast-paced company that is rapidly adapting to the ever changing utilities space. The Energy Risk Manager is responsible for managing the client’s Gas/Power commodity positions and performance. Ensuring client positions are managed and optimised intelligently and in accordance with agreed strategies as well as providing clarity to complex situations both internally and externally.

The Role:

• Translate client strategies into concrete actions and deliver timely and accurately
• Successfully project manage competing and complex client / supplier demands, liaise with energy suppliers and adhere to high quality standards often to tight deadlines to support a high-performance culture
• Express thoughts and commercial ideas and relate complex products and services in simple terms to clients, suppliers and colleagues
• Manage large volumes of information, paying close attention to detail to ensure all clients continue to receive an excellent level of service, have full understanding of risk, probability and volatility in order to set realistic expectations
• Capture client queries or issues on CRM system and oversee the positive resolution to conclusion
• Establish a deep understanding of every client’s particular needs, ensure superb customer service is delivered, make each client feel unique, happy and special by exceeding their expectations
• Manage flexible energy supply contract tendering process accurately and timely and in accordance with client requirements
• Structuring of clients’ flexible supply agreements
• The development and structuring of bespoke risk policies and strategies to meet individual client requirements
• Agreeing risk management strategies governing the clients’ flexible energy purchasing • Day to day delivery of clients’ risk management policies, strategies and plans for electricity and natural gas portfolios
• Management of customer energy portfolios to budgets and targets
• Undertaking of market analysis and research to provide up-to-date market intelligence to clients and colleagues using helpful and meaningful language
• Reporting on movements in the wholesale energy markets in legible and appropriate medium to clients and colleagues
• Assisting in bespoke consultancy projects
• Support the client renewal process to ensure retention is maximised
• Design, development and implementation of best practise energy risk policies, guides, strategies, controls and plans – strategic and tactical – individual clients and baskets level, taking into account portfolio purchasing optimisation
• Formulating, mapping and improving processes in the areas of energy risk management to ensure robustness, efficiency and excellence
• Implement, review and maintain best-in-class risk management systems, databases, controls and policies
• Development and implementation of risk methodology techniques, performance reporting and benchmarking guidelines
• Manage the analysis of global energy markets and their drivers and produce daily and monthly reports, webinars and events. Communicating effectively so that technical information can be easily digested and understood.
• Monitor the global energy markets and transact (buy / sell) wholesale natural gas and electricity in UK according to policy, strategy, plan and in line with market opportunities
• Manage clients’ and overall company energy positions, providing alerts when actions are required and liaising with clients and the head of trading and risk management to ensure that declared trading strategy and risk management policy is being applied effectively and in accordance with client agreements
• Ensure clients receive timely and accurate reports detailing their exposure covering purchases, positions, forecasts, budgets and prices (M2M, VaR, PaR)
• Working closely with UK suppliers and other counterparties to develop and deliver innovative energy procurement / risk management product and services to support growth
• Attend regular meetings with supply businesses in UK; attend client meetings to ensure contractual delivery and customer satisfaction whenever needed
• Cover other areas of work within the team during busy times or periods of absence
• Support the wider needs of the business as required

The Individual:

• Intricate understanding in the UK electricity, natural gas, oil, coal and carbon markets – industrial and commercial sectors, including good understanding of the UK energy regulations and legislation
• Degree level educated in relevant subject (Economics, Finance, Maths, Risk Management or Business Administration) and sound mathematical aptitude
• Experience negotiating/ structuring flexible natural gas and electricity agreements
• A proven track record of developing positive client relationships, client management and renewal
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to solve problems and develop innovative solutions
• The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with an exceptional work ethic and individual accountability as a prerequisite
• Strong IT skills, Excel, Reuters Eikon and MS Word skill, with experience in Access preferred
• Working experience in client / company risk management, risk minimisation, strategy setting, price and portfolio optimisation, risk modelling, simulations and position reporting
• Analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail
• Client focused
• A good team player, who is a self-starter, likes to get the job done properly first time
• Organisation skills – ability to take a proactive approach to work and to manage a busy workload independently
• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills – both written and verbal
• Self-motivated, persuasive, logical, able to influence others positively
• Excellent relationship building, interpersonal and networking skills with clients, colleagues and suppliers
• Commercial acumen, judgement, awareness and interest in innovation
• Professional business tenacious attitude, determination and ambition
• Genuine interest in the energy industry, and excited about a future at the business.
